Dear Dr. Brew: Are there any health benefits to coffee?

Dear Curious Cup,

Studies are always being “shown” and every body reacts differently to the delightful drink but let me (as well as the experts) just say: the pros outweigh the cons. (I know…I’m smiling too.)

Coffee, when consumed in healthy amounts (200-300 milligrams of caffeine a day which is 2 to 3 cups of coffee), contains many perks! I’m talking about coffee in its natural state before it’s decorated with cream and sugar. Here a few things to feel good about when sipping your daily brew:

  • Coffee protects your heart and liver (it has more antioxidants per serving than blueberries)
  • Boosts your brain power (alertness, attention, memory)
  • Web MD states that coffee drinkers are, “less likely to have type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia and have fewer cases of certain cancers, heart rhythm problems, and strokes.”

Remember: Everything in moderation and stay hydrated. For every cup of coffee- drink 2 full glasses of water.

Live your life. Enjoy your coffee.
