My passion is producing electronic pop music, and for the past six months I have been producing my first record. I plan on releasing the record early next year, but in the mean time, I decided to have some fun! I’ve been in the studio producing my own music mash-ups; I take two songs, one classic and one current, and combine them to make one original tune! For example, my first release featured Color Me Badd’s ‘I Wanna Sex You Up’ and Taylor Swift’s ’22′. Stay tuned for the next one which is Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ and Meatloaf’s ‘I Would Do Anything For Love’ on SoundCloud and Oct. 16th on Youtube.

Favorite Drink

Hibiscus Iced Tea from Starbucks.

It’s the Little Things

  • Sunshine (I’m a vitamin D addict)
  • Dancing alone in my undies to pop music (Spice Girls….I’m a nineties bitch! I love it!)
  • The ice that comes in little baby sized pellets. I call it chewy ice. GIMME.

My Coffee Table

My coffee table is a trunk that I found at a Vintage Automobile swap meet in Long Beach for 20 bucks. Major steal!

Some of the items on the table: A vintage postcard of Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis, MN. If you look hard enough- you can see my heart sunbathing on the shoreline. No really, I left it there. Hashtag HOME. A sample of my sister’s artwork (I Think About You- card). She makes clever letterpress cards that you can buy at The Paper Source and on her website. Tickets to Purity Ring at the Fonda…a souvenir from a great show… plus we got to celebrate Corin’s birthday with him backstage! Life is good! I love to read and am currently going through an English historical fiction stage, so books about the Lancasters, Yorks, and Tudors are all up my alley. This is probably what inspired my mash-up of Lorde’s Royals… images of Anne Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth are swimming around in my head!

We have a lot up our sleeves that we will soon make public. But for now we are in the process of getting our warehouse in order to be more showroom-y and to make space for more loot!

Favorite Drink

We’re both avid iced tea drinkers.

Our Coffee Table

screen-shot-2012-12-12-at-11-10-41-pm  On the table: fabrics that we look at daily to cover our furniture, the rolodex full of contacts and clients, my BookBook cover for my macbook pro, a glass of water, and tons of string, stamps and crafts are always around at the loot offices. Fun to do, and fun to look at.

coffee tableIMG_1124We love PLUTO. It is the perfect height, perfect chippy metal, great colors, and reminds us of a planet. We have many coffee tables that we like to give our attention, so ask us next week and it will probably be something different. Pluto was purchased from a private seller who loved it as much as we did but couldn’t get it to work in her home.

The Coffee Table with The Weaver House

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s time to meet the most wonderful twin sisters from their very own winter wonderland Portland, OR…

What’s Brewing

We’ve been wrapping up edits from summer weddings, as well as a neighborhoods project we photographed In Barcelona & Portland for Airbnb. Next up are some exciting new web design projects for a florist, an upholsterer, a fashion blogger and a charcoal artist. We’re also catching up on curating new items for our vintage & handmade shop in time for the holidays!

Favorite Drink

We spent our youth with family in Barcelona, first sipping ‘cortados’: a mighty shot of espresso in a sweet little shot glass. These days, we love our local coffee nooks (Ristretto RoastersStumptownCoava) for their no-fuss drip coffees, which we enjoy with just a bit o’ cream (and some cinnamon or nutmeg around the holidays!). Sometimes we’ll get fancy and order an Americano.

It’s The Little Things

  • Autumn in Portland. The smells, the colors and the energy in the air leading up the holidays is electric!
  • Going to the movies. Nothing beats sharing popcorn and a pint at our little indie theater.
  • Our menfolk & our mutts. Hannah has two min pins, Kelty has two large bully mixes, and we both have tall, bearded husbands.

 Our Coffee Tables

1. Hannah- I stumbled upon my coffee table at Sabi & Friends, a local vintage shop in North Portland. It’s from the 50s, and I like that the heavy metal top is removable, and the legs fold up for easy stowing.  We keep a candle and a few magazines on it, but tend to leave it rather minimal, as we don’t own a dining table!  For meals or drinks we tend to gather around it, sitting on big pillows or perching on the end of the couch. It’s communal medallion, of sorts.

2. Kelty- We have a large living room that we use for all sorts of activities and purposes, so getting a coffee table with wheels was a must. We found our current coffee table at World Market, and love how simple it is. Bottom shelf, simple metal, sleek wood, wheels, boom. All sorts of books tend to get stacked on there, not to mention plants and candles… it’s typically a mess, but what can you do?  :)

Words of Wisdom
Our mom is a painter, and her motto when we were growing up was “Do Whatever Works”. We’re both Type A gals, so this phrase reminds us to loosen up and take projects as they are; opportunities for some amazing adventures in creativity.  :)

The Coffee Table with Erin Tavin

When it comes to gift giving, nothing is better than a one-of-a-kind gem! That’s where Tavin Boutique in Echo Park, Los Angeles comes in. When you walk in the door you’ll find vintage as well as contemporary clothing, accessories, and home decor. Earlier this year, I interviewed the store’s owner ( also a buyer, stylist, and costumer) for My Top 5 on Smashbox Studios’ Yello blog. I realized…if this lovely lady’s coffee table is even half as cool as her store, we’re in for a treat. Take your coffee break with this week’s guest:

What’s Brewing

THE HOLIDAYS AT TAVIN!!! We are filling the shop with lots of beautiful gifts and holiday clothing to delight everyone. I’m an east coaster and I grew up with ALOT of holiday influences: Central Park, Rockefeller Center, the store windows on Fifth Ave, etc. We have a big holiday party at the shop that’s fun and festive with lots of sparkle, joy and drink!

Favorite Drink

Stumptown coffee preferably at a fave outdoor cafe in Portland or a good hot chocolate with a little fresh whipped cream on a chilly day. I love cozy stuff; walking around with my drink while I shop for the store makes it all much cozier and sweet.

It’s The Little Things
  • reading by a fireplace
  • the wilds of Big Sur ( love Eselon hot baths there )
  • flea markets in Paris- oh what a lovely and heavenly day that is for me!
  • camping with my husband in amazing places!

                                                       My Coffee Table

Coffee Tableon the table: a To-Do list which is HUGE ! I pull out the clip board when the list gets too long. A Francesa Woodman book from her show, handmade houses book, and great spa and hot springs book.

Some of my favorite novels: the Dud Avocado and Revenge of the Lawn— race to read the Dud Avocado its a major favorite of mine! I also have some rice hot cereal with berries, bananas, and maple syrup and a big cup of tea called “commune” from LA MILL.

Words of Wisdom

Follow that dream! There’s always a million and one reasons why NOT to follow it and usually it involves money… but whats money when it comes down to happiness and fulfillment right? TIME MOVES FAST SO FOLLOW THAT DREAM NOW!!! NOW NOW NOW!!!
